Content description
Notes, xeroxes and letters relating to John Carter's work on Thomas Browne (1605-1682), an English polymath and author of books in diverse fields. It mostly consists of Carter's preparatory work for his edition of Browne's 'Urn Burial and The Garden of Cyrus', published in 1932. For this edition, Carter examined and compared seven copies of Urn Burial in England and America that had corrections in the author's hand. He collated these in this 1932 edition. This file contains Carter's notes and photographic plates of the various copies, his notes and correspondence, and his later notes for a note printed in The Times Literary Supplement (1953) that describes a later copy he found with Browne's annotations.
