Duncombe Frederick Batt Buckley, attended Eton (JEY 1844-1848), Captain in the Scots Guards, fought in the Crimean War, wounded at Alma, killed in the trenches before Sevastopol 6 September 1855.
Alfred Buckley, attended Eton (JEY 1843-1848), elder brother of Duncombe Buckley, was in the Admiralty and afterward Secretary to the Duke of Somerset.

Captain Duncombe Buckley's diary dated 1 September 1852 - 19 June 1854, which includes an account of a trip to Turkey with his brother Alfred in August-December 1853 in which he meets Omar Pasha, General Dundas and other leaders, and witnesses the early Crimean War battle of Oltenitza. This is followed by a description of his return to England, and his embarkation with the Scots Fusilier Guards in February, bound for the Crimea. Buckley describes the movements of the Guards, encampment at Varna and arrival in the Crimea, the battle of Alma in which he was injured, his recuperation, winter in the Crimea, and encampment before Sebastopol.
Acquired by purchase in 2011.
