L. H. Myers, British author, son of F. W. H. Myers, writer and founder of the Society for Psychical Research, and Eveleen Tennant Myers, photographer. Leopold Hamilton Myers attended Eton and met his future wife Elsie Palmer while travelling in the United States. Myers wrote The Orissers (1922), The Clio (1925), and a sequence of novels set in India, collected in Britain under the title The Near and the Far and in the United States as The Root and the Flower. After becoming increasingly isolated and depressed, he committed suicide in April 1944. He had two daughters, Eve and E. Q. (Elsie Queen). E. Q. Myers became a painter and textile designer, and married the architect Kit Nicholson, who died in a glider accident in 1948.
