Content description
The papers represent a portion on Rutherford's literary output, consisting mainly of manuscripts and typescripts for individual, stand-alone novels, as well as some short stories, some plays and his non-fiction work relating to Eton College. Not all of Rutherford's novels are represented.
The collection also includes a couple of unpublished novels.
Absent from the collection are his drafts for the the series of novels 'Paddy Regan' and the two novels in the 'Paul Temple' series he co-authored with Francis Durbridge. The collection does not contain any of his work on foreign languages.
The collection does not include any personal papers or extensive correspondence, although some letters from publishers are enclosed with some of the drafts.
