The collection contains several manuscripts by James McConnell,, which were typed by Doreen Ireland. It is likely that the items in this collection are all that was kept of a larger volume of manuscripts Ireland work on. The drafts are predominately manuscripts, with some typescript pages interleaved.
The papers also include one novel by Francis Durbridge, with whom McConnell co-authored some of the Paul Temple series novels. However the novel in this collection appears to be by Durbridge alone.

The papers belonged to Doreen Mary Heaton Blanksby Ireland (known as Bunty Ireland). Ireland worked typing up manuscripts, and worked with James McConnell (Rutherford) in the 1970s and 1980s) copying a number of his novels from the original manuscripts, including the ones included in this collection
