Drafts relating to Rutherford's first book concerning Eton, drawing on his own experiences and written under the name James McConnell and originally published in 1967. It includes:

Corrected manuscript, dated 1965/66, written under the original title 'WIth a lion passant or...'. The manuscript is divided into sections, which differ to the final published version.

Corrected typescript, 186pp. dated 1965/66, with the first section rewritten in manuscript

Three seperate versions of a corrected manuscript blurb for the dust-jacket, including Rutherford's list of corrections and amendments for the first edition

Critical reviews for the work, including an assortment of press cuttings, articles and intellectual weeklies, all dating Feb-Mar 1967. It includes a leading article in the Chronicle featuring the work, dated 3 March 1967 and a Best Seller listing.

Letters with Eton connections, mainly from Old Etonians, as well as current and former beaks

Letters from other writers, including the BBC, Royston Lambert and Rutherford's friends and relations. Arranged in alphabetical order.

5 photographs by S.C. Moreton-Prchard, which were included in the final publication
