Geoffrey R. Gunther was one of 3 brothers. He attended Eton (M.D.H.) and served as 2nd Lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards during WWI. He was killed at Preux-le-Sar, France, on 4th November 1918 ( a week before the Armistice). His youngest brother, Leslie, died in an aeroplane crash in 1922. E. C. Devereux was a tailor based at Eton. He was a member of a family in Eton High Street supplying hats and clothing to the school. He published 'Life's memories of Eton and Eton Colours' in 1935.

Content description

1 letter of condolence from E. C. Devereux to Mrs Gunther dated "Sept. 12 1923". Devereux offers his condolences on the death of Leslie Gunther. He also mentions that Leslie Gunther left his lists, coloured ribbons and 'pop' rules in his care. He includes a photograph of a similar collection and asks Mrs Gunther what her wishes are on the matter. The photograph with this letter is presumably the one he mentions in his correspondence.
