Title

Lady Susan Young and Sir George Young collection

Level

Sub-sub-fonds

Date

1780-1941

Extent & medium

8 sub-series

Content description

These papers form the largest part of the Praed / Young collection and were collected Sir George Young (3rd baronet) and used when compiling his uncles works for publication. A number of the volumes contained Young’s annotations, remarking on the material.

It also includes various family papers, which were collected and kept by Lady Susan Young and cover three generations of the Praed and Young families.

Provenance

The papers relating to the Praed family were in the possession of Lady Susan Young (neé Praed) and from there they were passed down by descent along with the Young family papers

Arrangement

In the absence of any other original order, the material has been arranged by individual family member, reflecting the arrangement at the time the papers were acquired. This series has been kept separate from the rest of the collection as they represent the working papers of Sir George Young in compiling his uncle’s works. They therefore are of research interest in their own right, by representing the manuscripts and letters to which he had access.
