Content description
This series covers the drafts and research notes for Young’s major works. The series principally contains corrected typescripts and notebooks as well as additional research papers that were collected during his travels and used in his writings.
The typescripts present in this series are the ones sent to Gritta Weil for alteration. In some cases the typescripts and miscellaneous research notes that fed into his publications were filled separately. Notes for ‘In search of Conrad’ for example can be found under MS 675 04.
Not all Young’s work are represented in this series as a number of typescripts have either not survived or were not held by Weil. Notably absent are drafts for ‘Return to the Marshes’, ‘Iraq: Land of Two Rivers’ and ‘Worlds Apart’.

Arrangement
This series has been ordered according to publication, reflecting the order in which they were received by Eton College Library. They have placed in chronological order by the cataloguing archivist to reflect the creative order of the papers.
A number of the notebooks and typescripts have labels on them, suggesting this order was imposed by Gritta Weil either on receipt of the papers, or during sorting ready for transfer to Eton College Library.
