The notebooks in this sub-series principally concern Iran and Iraq and include his time spent with the Marsh Arabs. A number of the notebooks from his early visits to the Marshes take a diary form and contain more detailed descriptions than most of the notebooks in this series.
The remainder of the notebooks contain brief notes on the language and cultures he experienced. Some of the notebooks have loose receipts, business cards, photographs or additional notes enclosed.
