This series covers the writings and the literary interests of Ashton-Gwatkin, which has been collected into published material and typescripts. The papers consist of fictional prose; autobiographical writing; verse; reviews; plays and historical accounts. They reflect the diversity of Ashton-Gwatkin’s interests which varied from writings about Japan, and other significant events or people in his life, to classical figures. As well as creating his own original verse and prose, he would often translate works from a number of different languages, including Greek; Latin and French.
