Content description

This sub-series represents McCrum’s working papers and research for writing the official biography of P G Wodehouse, published in 2004. It includes his extensive research material; chapter drafts; a diary kept during the writing of the book, correspondence about the book; press reviews, promotional speaking tours and papers relating to the related television programme

The files reflect McCrum’s extensive research and contain photocopies of archive material relating to Wodehouse. In addition, some original material was collected or given to McCrum during the course of his research. These have been noted in the relevant file description.

Arrangement

The original order imposed by McCrum before transfer to Eton College Library has been maintained. This has been reflected by each of the original box files relating to a corresponding ‘file’ level description. McCrum organised the files according to the nature of the material. Substantial further material was added in the 3rd and 4th tranches of papers.
