Content description

The personal papers of Robert McCrum comprise family papers, items from his schooldays, university years, documents and certificates, diaries, address books, personal stationery, commonplace books and notebooks, lectures and speeches, articles written about himself and personal correspondence. The roughly annual correspondence files maintained, were marked by McCrum as personal, and while they contain a certain amount of personal papers, particularly correspondence relating to his family and friends, they are principally made up of miscellaneous papers relating to his literary, publishing and journalistic work.

The papers in this series overlap with MS 678 01: Working papers for literary work’ and MS 678 02: Working papers for journalistic work.

Arrangement

In order to integrate closely related personal papers from the 1st and 2nd tranches with the 3rd and 4th tranches, additional sub-series were created and some items were moved from original sub-series to the newly created sub-series as necessary. An artificial arrangement has been imposed.
