Content description
Papers of Samuel Moulton-Barrett, brother of Edward Moulton-Barrett, while in Jamaica, overseeing his family’s estates, first in 1811, then from 1827 to 1837, relating to business, legal and family matters; including correspondence with Presbyterian minister Rev Hope Masterton Waddell, working with enslaved persons on his estates
Arrangement
These papers were almost certainly returned to Edward Moulton-Barrett after the death of his brother Samuel in December 1837. Papers of his brother Sam and his son Sam, in relation to their acting as agents of Edward, overseeing the family’s estates, have been incorporated into Edward’s series as a sub-file to respect provenance, context and improve clarity.
