Content description
Papers of Samuel Moulton-Barrett, as agent in Jamaica, overseeing his father Edward’s estates in Jamaica, 1836 to 1840 relating to business and family matters in Jamaica; including letters from his father Edward, papers about his journeys to Cuba and United States; letter from Scottish Presbyterian missionary Rev Hope Masterton Waddell; also, letters received from Jamaica while he was back in London (Oct 1838-Dec 1838)
Arrangement
These papers were almost certainly returned to Edward Moulton-Barrett after the death of his brother Samuel in December 1837. Papers of his brother Sam and his son Sam, in relation to their acting as agents of Edward, overseeing the family’s estates, have been incorporated into Edward’s series as a sub-file to respect provenance, context and improve clarity.
