Administrative / Biographical history

Alfred Price Moulton-Barrett (1820-1904) was the tenth child of Edward and Mary Moulton-Barrett. Educated at University College London, he was also an amateur artist. In 1855, he married his cousin Georgiana Elizabeth (Lizzie) Barrett (1833-1918) in Paris. Like his sisters Elizabeth and Henrietta, Alfred was disinherited by their father for marrying against his wishes. Throughout the 1850s, Alfred kept close contact with his sister Elizabeth and Robert Browning.

Alfred travelled to Jamaica and Madeira (1856), and Hong Kong (1857), but did not hold a formal occupation. He and Lizzie lived mainly on her family inheritance until Alfred inherited property after his brother George’s death in 1895.
The couple had four children: Edward Alfred, Alice Elizabeth, George Goodin, and Mary Ethel. They later lived in France and Belgium. Alfred died in 1904 at Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France.
