Autograph manuscript of 'A Woman's Last Word' and a fragment of 'Beatrice Signorini'
Item
[1853]
1 volume
A leaf from Browning's working notebook, 1853. It has the ink manuscript of 'A Woman's Last Word' on one side, crossed out in pen, and a fragment of 'Beatrice Signorini' on the other. 'Beatrice Signorini' was first published in 'Asolando', 1889. The lines on this manuscript fragment correspond with lines 15-28 of the finished poem. The fact that the manuscript was given to Mrs Mary Ford on 18 March 1866 suggests that the poem must have been written in Browning's notebook some time between 1853 and 1866.
Manuscript leaf given by Browning to Mrs Mary Ford on 18 March 1866. The leaf is mounted on card and this information is written on it.
