Content description
The autograph manuscript of Robert Browning's 'Gerousios Oinos' , dated 21st December 1879 at the end. Two leaves, possibly extracted from a notebook, in ink. A previous title is crossed out at the head of the first leaf, with the final title in Greek next to it. Eight stanzas with the only correction being the title.
Provenance
Purchased by Michael Meredith from Quaritch. The manuscript proves Browning's authorship of these verses on 'Wine reserved for the lords' - Sotheby's described the poem as unpublished but it had been put into proof during Browning's lifetime and was published from this proof version by Bertram Dobell in in 1914.
