Laurence Houseman approached Edward Gordon Craig and Martin Shaw after seeing their performance of Acis and Galatea and asked them to design and produce ‘Bethlehem’, a Naivety play he had written.
The letters regard the production of ‘Bethlehem’, providing details of the production and includes copies of letters Scott sent to various libraries and institutions trying to gather further information.
The letters also refer to Housman’s connection to Grant Richards and include letters from Scott to Bruce Harkness, who was interested in Housman’s association with Richards.
Also included is an extract entitled ‘a theatrical memoir of Gordon Craig by Laurence Housman’, taken from an unknown publication; a small folder of obituaries for Laurence Housman; and a copy of ‘A Morning with the Royal Family’ by A.E. Housman.
