Content description
A collection of artwork by James and Nat Sparks, including oil paintings, watercolours, sketches and others. The art generally depicts 'Wessex' scenes. There is a number of landscapes and depictions of churches by James Sparks, some of which appear in Hardy's novels, and also a sketch of Hardy in his sketchbook. There are five oil paintings by Nat Sparks, and he also painted family homes, such as the Hardy Cottage in Higher Bockhampton. The archive also has some of Nat Sparks' etchings.
