Lancelot Guy Michael Hannen (1924-2015), known as Guy, was the only son of Lancelot (Gordon) Hannen (1897-1964) and Joyce Clode. He was educated at Eton from 1937 to 1942. Commissioned into the British Army’s 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers (1942-1947), he served in Italy with the Royal Armoured Corps. He saw action and was wounded at Pideura in December 1944, for which he was awarded the Military Cross. After studies at Trinity Hall Cambridge, he joined his father Gordon as auctioneer at Christie's, rising to Director in 1954 and Managing Director in 1971, Chairman of Christie’s New York and Deputy Chairman of Christie’s International. He married Brigid (Biddie) Gibbs. They had two children, Caroline and Peter Michael Lance (Eton College 1966-1971).
