Sir Nicholas (Tick) John Hannen (1842-1900) was the youngest son of James Hannen and Susanna Lee. Educated at Liège in Belgium, the City of London School and University College, London. Trained as a barrister, he was the British arbitrator on British claims against the government of Japan in 1873; Crown Advocate at Shanghai from 1878-1881 and Acting Chief Justice, Supreme Court, China and Japan from 1881 to 1883. He married Jessie M Woodhouse. They had two daughters, Jessie Susan Hannen, Mary Fanny Hannen and a son, Nicholas James (Beau) Hannen.
