Sir Edward Walter Hamilton was at Eton in the house of William Evans from 1860 - 1865. He entered the Treasury in 1870, becoming Joint Permanent Secretary in 1902. He acted as Private Secretary to W.E. Gladstone while Prime Minister.

Two exercise books bound together containing verses in Latin and Greek. Incomplete index at front, giving subject, page, metre and mark. Author notes who his tutor was that half, who he was "up to".
