Papers of Alastair Hugh Sampson
Series
Assistant master 1968.2-2005.2
Alastair Sampson taught piano and organ, and Eton produced many organ scholars in his time.
1983 - 2010
These papers contain material on the restoration of the College Chapel organ in the 1980s and the subsequent adjustments but are primarily concerned with the building of a new organ in Lower Chapel, completed 2001. They include much technical information as well as useful summary reports on the position by external advisers, Nicholas Thistlethwaite and Ian Bell. Much of the content is of wider than Eton interest; the extensive discussions and reports on the various organs and their builders are valuable for the history of organ building in this country
The arrangement is an artificial one; the papers arrived unsorted in a carrier bag
