COLL CHKM
Provost Marten's Collecteana
Series
Sir Henry Marten (Lower Master 1925-1929, Vice-Provost 1929-1945, Provost 1945-1949) was a successful teacher of history, who was chosen to tutor Princess Elizabeth in the subject, but he had the deplorable habit that, in the course of his investigations into Eton's records, he would remove from their context documents he considered especially 'interesting' and bear them off to the Provost's Lodge. They were eventually returned after his death but their context was lost; some items could be restored to their original place but this series are those with no obvious home.
