Modbury, Devon: Inquisition concerning Penquit

Inquisition taken at Pencoyt [Penquit] on Friday after the Feast of James the Apostle 37 Edward III before Thomas Cheyne, eschaeter in co. Devon, by the oath of William Fastocu, Thomas Boys, Richard Somaistre, John Strode, John Willynges, John Symond, Isaac Dogaetes, John Wode, John Drywe, William Rous, William Box, and Richard Wyndescomb, who say the Robert de Cury, late Prior of Great Modebury [Modbury], held of the King in chief, on the day he died, the hamlet of Pencoyt in frankalmoign time out of mind. In times of vacancy the eschaetor has been wont to take simple seisin, but to levy no issues for the Kings use, to which he has no right. The Prior died on Tuesday the Feast of St Andrew the Apostle (9 May 1363)
