Admission and Institution by Hugh de Hikkelyng president of the consistory of Exeter, of John Michel, Monk of the abbey of the Blessed Mary of St. Peter super Divam, as prior of the priory of Modbury, quoting letters from Thomas, Bishop of Exeter, (to the effect that) by the death of Gilbert de Billeyo, of the office of prior is vacant and the presentation, by reason of the temporalities of the said abbey being in King's hands on account of the war with France, belonging to the King, as he asserts, the King has nominated to Thomas de Campo Arnulphi, patron of the said Priory, John Michel, monk of the said Abbey, to be presented, We order you (Hugh de Hikkelyng) to inquire diligently, with all haste and unexpectedly, into the vacancy and, according to the information received, to institute the said John, according to the custom and liberties of the Cathedral Church of Exeter, and to make him take the oath of canonical obedience owed to us and to decree him or his proctor in corporal possession of the Priory and defend him when inducted, and to do everything that shall seem necessary or opportune, but afterwards to relax the sequestration imposed by our authority, and to inform us by letters patent of your actions in the foregoing before the Feast of St. John the Babtist: given at Dorchester, 5 May 1370.
The inquisition was made by the official of the Archdeacon of Totnes, John Michel was found suitable and the presentation of Thomas de Campo Arnulph was made.

Seal. Single pointed oval, 32mm. dark green wax, on tongue, flattened. A crozier between mitres.
