Indenture, of 10. May 1537, of lease by master Roberte Aldrydge, Provost, and the College, of Eton to John Slannynge, of London, of the site and manor of Upton with eight closes of land in the parish of Modbury called Northerpendowne, Southerpendowne, Chapell parke, Allerbere and one close adjoining to the Barne, Buttonhole, Rockesfen and Upton Mede and a cotage with three closes of land called Quary parke Kuendoune Westwood and a piece of ground called the Wood, with all lands appurtaining to the said tenement or cottage, in Modbury, held by John baker of Penquyt and William, his son, for their lives successively by copy of court-roll after the custom of the manor of Upton. to hold for twenty one years from Michaelmas 1541, or as soon as the premises shall come into the hands of the grantors, for the customary rents.
