Indenture of lease, by the Provost and College of Eton to Sir Edward Fowell, of Fowellscombe in Uborough, Co. Devon, of the Priory and rectory of Modbury, and the manors of Modbury, Upton and Penquite, and a tenement in notter, Co. Cornwall, and eight closes of land in Modbury, parcels of the manor of Upton, called Neither Pendowne, Souther Pendowne, Chapell Parke, Allerbury, one close adjoining the Barne, Butterheale and Upton Meade, and a cottage sometime held by Michael Mallett, and a tenement or cottage with three closes of land called the Quarrie Parke, Keadowne and Westdowne, and a parcel of land called the Wood, late held by Michael Mallett; excepting the advowson of the vicarage of Modbury, and all great timber. To hold from Michaelmass last for twenty one years, for a yearly rent of 46le : 8s : 10d and twenty three quarters, two bushels of wheat and sixty two quarters of malt at Michaelmas or their equivelant in money at the current rate of the market of Windsor, and 6li : 9s : 6d which is a recent increase of the rent, and ten pounds for the perquisites of courts and other casualties.
