Long Compton, Warwickshire: Indenture of sale of land

Indenture of sale by Sir William Compton, knight, Lord Compton, Sir Thomas Compton, of Goadby, co. Leicester, knight, his brother William Pye, of the Middle Temple, esquire, and Robert Pye, of London, esquire, to the Provost and College of Eton, in consideration of certain lands assured to the vendors upon trust for the benefit of Lord Compton, and for 12d, and in performance of an agreement of 12 February 1617, of the courte close being part of the demesne of the manor of Long Compton late Stanleys, containing 10 acres or thereabouts, abutting to the north on a brook running to the mill, to the south on a lane called Berry Lane leading from the town into the field, to the west on Home lane, and to the east on the west part of the churchyard of the parish church of Long Compton, together with two dovehouses and the flights of pigeons and one old decayed barn or outhouse. To hold in perpetuity. Witnesses: Richard Randall, William Warner, Robert Jackson, John Downes, James Newton, John Middleton.
