The Ball, Holborn, London: Indenture of lease of The Ball

Indenture of lease, by Henry Coole, D D. Provost, and the College, to John Danby, citizen and merchant tailor of London, of a tenement called the Ball at Holborne Cross in the parish of St Sepulchre's without Newgate, between the tenement called the Lambe now in the tenure of Stephen Gybson, sometime of Thomas Wytton, on the south and Cokkyslane [Cock Lane] on the north, containing in length next Cokkyslane 33¾ ells and 3 inches and on the south 28 ells 4 inches and in length in the middle 39¾ ells, and another piece of ground adjoining with an old house built thereon between the Lambe on the south and Cokkyslane on the north, all which said tenement called the Balle, and the said piece of ground, were sometime parcels of the possession of the Hospital of St James in the fields, and are held by the said Danby for the term of 15 years from the feast of the Purification next ensuing (for a rent of 3s 4d a year) yet to come as by an indenture of 15 November 1473 may appear. From Michaelmas 1572, when the previous lease expires, for 60 years. Rent, for the next 75 years, 40s.
