White Bear, Cheapside, London: Indenture of lease of tenements

Indenture of lease, by Robert, bishop of Carlisle, Provost, and the College to Fulke Skydmore, of London, mercer, of four houses and tenements with all shops cellars and warehouses in the parishes of St Mary Magdalene in Milk Street and All Hallows in Bread Street in the city of London, that is to say both the houses called the White Bear and the White Hart, now in the tenure of the said Fulke and of Agnes Cavendyshe, widow, William Crompton, mercer, and Brian Johnson, butcher. From Lady day next for 70 years. The lessee to build "one frame mete hable and convenyente for the forefronte of one of the sayd foure messuages or tenementes commonly callyd the Whyte Bere which frame shalbe of three storyes of heighte above the nether flore or shoppe of the same mesuage". For the building of the frame the lessee may retain the rent he would otherwise have paid until he has retained the sum of £73 6s 8d. The lessee or his assigns to dwell in the premises with their family and household especially in and upon the tenement called the White Bere.
