Stratfield Saye, Hampshire: Indenture of lease of croft

Indenture of lease by brother William Valeran, prior of St Leonard of Stratfled Say, and Matilda de Bradeford, tenant for life of the priory, to Roger the smith (fabro) of a croft called Cruchcroft in the vill of Stratfield Saye lying between the land of John Schaldeford and the land of Gilbert Galopin. To hold from the feast of St Simon and St Jude 6 Edward III for thirty five years. Within five years the lessee is to marl the said croft, except for two butts of land which shall have been first marled. And when the time comes, the said Roger shall plough a moiety of the said croft and sow it and harrow, weed and reap it and bind and lead the crop. The lessors will do the same for the other moiety.
