Stratfield Saye, Hampshire: Indenture of agreement over land

Indenture of agreement between brother William Parmenter, prior of the hermitage of St Leonard, of one part and Nicholas Gommyng, John Hocrythe, Richard Hocrythe and William Hocrythe of Stratfeld Say, of the other part, by which the said prior has leased to the latter two pieces of arable land lying in Stratfield Saye in Wydemere one of which lies next the wood of Widemere and extends at the southern end to the field called Goseflode and at the northern end to the prior's meadow and between the prior's hedge on both sides, and the other piece lies in Widemere and extends at the southern end to the way which leads to the fair oak and at the northern end upon the land of the prior. To be held for thirty five years until they have received twenty crops of corn at the right time after the next five years. The lessees are to marl the pieces of land during the next five years; the lessor to plough and find a moiety of the seed and sow harrow weed reap and bind the lead a moiety of the sheaves and to have the pasture thereof yearly. The lessees are to find the other moiety of the seed and to sow weed read and bind and lead a moirty of the sheaves but not to have any pasture. Further provisions concerning marling and conditions of selling or letting. The parties bind themselves in 20s for the observation of the agreement.
