Indenture of agreement between brother Ralph Provost, prior or keeper of the hermitage of St Leonard of Stratfield Saye and proctor general of the abbey and convent of the Blessed Mary of Valido Monte [St Mary Vallemont], and Richard Godard and Joan, his wife, by which the prior has leased to the said Richard and Joan a piece of land called Gerardesgref in Stratfeld Say, for 10 marks sterling, and has sold to the same all the trees on the said land for them to cut down or do what they will with, except the trees growing in the hedges and dikes which are reserved to the prior. The premises are situated next the land of John de Shaldeforde on the north and east and the land called Bondemanneslond on the south and the way which leads from Parcstrete to le Fayrok on the west. To be held for 50 years. Rent 2s, together with suit of court at the hermitage, and heriots when they shall befall, and the performing of all charges towards the foresters for the time being. If the lessees or either of them shall outlive the lease, they may continue to enjoy the premises for life.
