Stratfield Saye, Hampshire: Bargain and sale of woods

Indenture of bargain and sale, by William Daye, Provost, and the College of Eton, for £100 to Richard Harrison of Stratfeelde Saye, co. Berks, gentleman of all the woods on the priory lands in Stratfeilde Saye [Stratfield Saye], now in the occupation of Thomas Harrison, except for all trees now standing on two little plots near the site of the priory know as the mill heise and the chappill heise, for twenty years. And lease to the same also for the same term all woods belonging to the rectory of Stratfeelde Mortimer[Stratfield Mortimer] commonly know as Mounckton and Woorthinge. In a certain parcel of woodland commonly called the Coppice in Stratfield Saye comprising 10 acres, at every felling the lessee shall leave for every acre twelve standers or storers to be marked by the lessors. Similarly on a parcel of woodland called Widmore in Stratfeld Saye, comprising 4 acres, the lessee is to leave twelve standers. And on a parcel of woodground of 8 acres belonging to the rectory of Stratfield Mortimer, the lessee is to leave such standers and storers as are provided by statute. After the felling of these parcels the lessee is to enclose them sufficiently. The lessee to deliver at the College grounds known as "the playinge leases" five loads of timber each piece to be 12 inches square at the lease, yearly before the feast of St John the Baptist, or to pay at the Cupborde in the Hall £3 6s 8d at the said feast. Failure to perform this will involve a fine of 10s for each month of default. As the end of the term the lessee is to leave growing upon the lands aforementioned (other than the two pitles called the mill heyse and the chappell heyse and the parcels of woodground aforementioned) 100 standers or storers which shall be 12 inches square 3 feet above the stem.
