Symon Jeames, Woodstocke, 27 January 1606/7, to Mr Wharton at Oriall Colledge in Oxon concerning the suit of Francis Joanes against Brock in the hundred court, viz, the curia baronis Willelmi Spencer militis of the hundred of Poughley. The defendant Brocke has avowed that the place in question is a freehold belonging to Eton College, which avowry has put the court out of jurisdiction for it cannot hold plea of frank tenure. He advises the college therefore to perfect its answer.
