Indenture of agreement, between master William Westbury, Provost, and James Palden, of Laghton, co. York, mason, by which the latter or his deputy "shall sleede loode shipp and carie be Water from the bankes or wharves of Cawode cccc tonnne tyght of stoon of the quarrie of Hudleston unto seynt Kateryns Pole beside the Tour of London," receiving for the said transport 4s a ton, 20d for each ton. If any of the stone be lost, perished or taken by enemies upon the sea, Palden shall make good to the Provost for every ton so lost 20d. But if any is lost by storms and if it be not the fault of Palden, then he shall pay nothing. Palden shall have "a gownclothe of the lyvery of the werkes of the said College". The Provost or his attorney "in as hasty tyme as they may" after being informed of the arrival of the ships shall see to their unlading and to the necessary payment. Bond by Palden in 50 marks for the payment of 20d a ton for any stone lost through enemy action at sea.
