4 folios
Petition to the Provost and Fellows from the Overseers of the poor of the parish of Eton and the rest of the inhabitants of the parish. In 1746 the College increased its traditional payment to the Overseers from £6 to £16 13s 4d. In 1769 it increased this to £21 13s 4d. The expense attending the maintenance of the poor in 1746 was about £250; in 1769 about £450 and has been increasing since. The College payment were gifts in lieu of rates. Three houses, formerly held of the College at very low rents, have now been let by the College for the annual sum of £90. Several inhabitants ought to be rated equally with other houses.
