Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown
Item
27 January 1813
From Margaretta Farm. 'Tell him [Dr Keate] from me that I believe him to be a most excellent Headmaster of Eton, but that I think he would never have made a good banker', he only needed to write a short compliment note as a banker would, example given. Glad that Fanny is recovered and hopes that soon her minikin will become a midling. THe news from the Continent is satisfying but the poor weak King of Prussia does not have sufficient authority to impose silence on the Playhouse. If a change takes place in the System of Germany 'I might have hopes of recovering my library' but cannot be absent for as long as would be needed to go there. There have been break ins locally and much to Mrs Elliot the housekeepers apprehensions he has been obliged to have a brace of pistols on the drawers in the bedchamber. A pack of housebreakers have been apprehended and sent to Norwich Gaol.
