Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown
Item
25 May 1813
From Margaretta Farm. Insists that Margaretta sends for Dr Pope to help with her complaints. He had a feeling she was indisposed. He hopes to send soon a Bank Bill for the legacy left by Captn. Wein to her dear mother. The parcel of letters from Berlin were not as interesting as he had hoped - though he has no doubt about the bravery and patriotism of the Prussians he is uneasy about the conduct of Bernadotte and thinks the best hope lies in the French being deficient in Cavalry, so that if there is a defeat the destruction of their flying infantry will be terrible 'what times we in live when we rejoice in the Effusion of Torrents of human blood!'
Asks for the cost of the mole skins which are intended for her and Fanny so that he can refund Dr Keate. He has been shown a Hamburg paper and hopes to send a Berlin almanac which he has also been promised. Has she heard from young Massow (?) who is returned from Portugal and was in London calling on the Prince of Orange on his way to Berlin. He envies his parents the delight they must experience on his return to his native country which he had gallantly abandone when under the humiliating yoke of the French. Addressed to Miss Brown, at the revd. Dr Keate's, Eton College, near Windsor
