Margaretta Brown: Letter from Fanny Keate
Item
19th Century
Requests that she buys two white beaver hats for her two eldest daughters, Mary's 20 inches round the brow and Fanny's 19 inches of a nice snug shape with the crown falling rather backwards and not sticking out behind. A little picture shows what she would like. She wants to trim them with ribbons as cheaper and does not want feathers. Wishes her to get them at Irelands at Piccadilly and as cheaply as she can. The one she ordered from Jones's for Baby was a monster, Egalstone charges 18 shillings for one of Baby's size. Almost out of her skin with joy at the idea of her sister coming home so soon. Asks her to tell their father to come at Christmas. Sorry Sally cannot come too especially as Robert Keate will be there then. Asks her to pay her bills in town. Bring little Fanny 'tinny pressies' as she shoted with joy when she heard Margaretta was coming. If she is in or near Oxford can she get a Lamp for oil.
