A collection of John Carter's papers that relate to his, and Graham Pollard's, work on the forger Thomas James Wise (1859-1937), whom they exposed in 'An Enquiry into the Nature of Certain Nineteenth Century Pamphlets' in 1934. Although the manuscript of 'An Enquiry' is at the University of Texas, in the collection at Eton College Library there is the manuscript of a follow-up article by Carter entitled 'Thomas Wise: Book Forger', a manuscript of an exhibition introduction about Wise written by Carter, notes and drafts of a second edition of 'An Enquiry', documentation concerning the transfer of the 'An Enquiry' manuscript to Texas and an autograph letter from Carter to Michael Sadleir that mentions Wise.
