This series covers Frank Ashton-Gwatkin’s time from when he left school to after his retirement from the foreign office. It covers correspondence that are of a more personal nature, including letters with Nancy before they were married; a collection of postcards collected by Gwatkin and more general correspondence with friends that had been arranged by individual.

Further letters can be found throughout the archive most notably in the scrapbooks when they related to particular events or official business, such as the publications of his novels or his work with the foreign office.

A number of the files contain other related papers such as photographs or obituaries
