John Holmstrom was a close friend of three Eton masters, Wilfrid Blunt, Raef Payne and Jerry Jarratt. Together they formed a friendship group and regularly met and corresponded with each other.

The papers relate to three former masters at Eton College. It represents a small amount of their personal papers, which in addition to correspondence between Holmstrom and all three men, includes various other papers which came into the possession of John Holmstrom. This includes literary works and a variety of personal correspondence and photographs.
The papers were created or kept initially by Blunt, Payne and Jarratt respectively. At various time they were sent or passed to Holmstrom.
The papers have been arranged according to the individual they concern. The original order of the files within each series has been maintained from the time of acquisition and reflects the natural of the material.
The association with Eton College means that further papers relating to all three men are to be found throughout the College Collections, particularly within the college archives. Further details of related collections are given at the appropriate level.
