Moulton-Barrett archive: Papers relating to the Jamaican estates of the Moulton-Barrett family
Series
1774-1927
3 boxes
A collection of papers relating to the Moulton Barretts' Jamaican plantations. The papers consist of legal and financial documents, accounts, contracts, handwritten lists of the slaves on each plantation and related material. Edward Barrett (1734-1798) was the original landowner of four Jamaican plantations: Cinnamon Hill, Cambridge, Oxford and Cornwall. The chronological order of these papers provides a useful tool for tracking the fortunes of the plantations and their owners, from Edward Barrett through to his descendants who eventually lost the estates.
In boxes labelled "Q1 1774-1841", "Q2 1841-1875" and "Q3 1875-1927, N.D." by Edward R. Moulton-Barrett. The documents are in smaller folders within the boxes.
