Henrietta Moulton-Barrett (known as ‘Addles') was born at Hope End, Herefordshire in 1809, the sixth child of Edward and Mary Moulton-Barrett. She had a close relationship with her brother Sam. She was the most religious of her siblings but was fond of music and dancing. Four years after her father cut off her sister Elizabeth for marrying Robert Browning, Henrietta married her cousin William Surtees Cook - later Altham (1813-1887) and was immediately disowned. The couple had three children, Altham, Mary and Edward. Henrietta died of cancer at their home Stoke Court in Somerset in November 1860.
