Administrative / Biographical history

Henry Moulton-Barrett (1818-1896), known as Harry, the ninth child of Edward and Mary Moulton-Barrett, was born at Hope End, Herefordshire in 1819. He studied in Germany between 1836 and 1838, and in 1844 travelled to Egypt with his brother Charles John. He did not pursue a formal profession.

Harry reconciled with his sister Elizabeth after her break from their father following her marriage to Robert Browning. In 1860, he married the widow Amelia Morris (née Holland), and they had five children: Harry Peyton, Amelia, Frank, Leonard, and Florence.

The family lived in Devon, eventually settling in Sidmouth, where Harry died in 1896.
