Septimus Moulton-Barrett (1820-1870) was the eleventh child of Edward and Mary Moulton-Barrett, born at Hope End, Herefordshire. He was educated at University College London and trained as a barrister at Middle Temple.

After his father’s death, Septimus moved to Jamaica around 1858 with his brothers Charles John (Storm) and Octavius to assist in managing the family estates in St James and Trelawny. He returned to England in 1858 and after returning to Jamaica, he was elected to the Jamaica Legislative Council and served as Custos of St James.

Septimus formed a relationship with his housekeeper (unnamed in the archives), with whom he had a daughter, Mary Caroline (born 1864). Known for his extravagant lifestyle, he accumulated debts of £30,000 and was held responsible for the final loss of the Barretts’ Jamaican estates. He died at Cinnamon Hill in March 1870.
