Administrative / Biographical history
Edward Francis Moulton-Barrett (1886-1966) (known as Teddy) was the eldest son of Edward Alfred Moulton-Barrett (1859-1932) and his first wife, Frances Amelia Horton (1857-1927). He pursued a military career, rising to the rank of Major in the Royal West Kent Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross (MC) for his service during the First World War, in which he was wounded at Hill 60 (Ypres). After his father's death in 1932, Teddy inherited all his father's estates, including Albion in St Ann, Jamaica, where he settled as the last member of the Barrett family to own the estate.
During the Second World War, he served as a Colonel in the Jamaica Home Guard and was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1946. He was also elected Custos of St Ann's Parish. Teddy married Evelyn Constance Stansfield (née Ambler) (1877-1971) in 1915; they divorced in 1939. In 1947, he married his second wife, Svanhild Amalia Skjondahl (1892-1985). They lived at Haddon, Moneague, Jamaica.
With the development of bauxite mining in Jamaica during and after the Second World War, Teddy received an offer for the Albion estate, which he sold in 1949. He and Svanhild then moved to a new home, ‘Fredheim’, above Brown’s Town, where he lived until his death in October 1966.
Teddy and his first wife Evelyn had one child, Edward Richard Moulton-Barrett (1916-1992).
